After the weekend, Derrike said, "As for Daytona, well what can I say? I was
unhappy with how the race went needless to say. We only got three laps of
practice so it was not much time to assess what the car needed to race.
Qualifying went pretty well though, 31st with not a lot of effort.
"In the race we moved up really quickly, but the car was very tight from
the start (with no practice), so I had to be patient until the first caution
came out. We had worn the front tires out on that first run. We stayed out
to try and lead a lap but my mistake in letting Mike Wallace get by me
allowed him to lead the lap, and then it was a quick caution and we went to
the back of the pack. That is where we stayed pretty much for the rest of
the race. We continued to try and lead a lap but never could and that kept
us at the very back. We never really had any help from behind, nor could we
get off pit road around any cars. It was a frustrating race, especially
because we showed that we could have easily ran in the lead draft."
